Advance Care Planning
In essence, advance care/estate planning boils down to having 4 pieces in place:
The first three are documents that provide guidance WHILE YOU’RE STILL ALIVE. Will and trusts direct what happens after you’ve died. I can help with the first three, and I direct folks to a lawyer for wills and trusts. Depending on how complex your financial situation is, sometimes it’s best to have a lawyer do the Durable Power of Attorney for Finances as well.
What I focus on primarily is the Advance Directive for Healthcare and the Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare— the form I use combines these into one document. It’s written in plain language (not lawyer-ese) and has some good verbiage around why these documents are important and how they’re used. Doctors vastly prefer these forms (which are every bit as legally binding as the ones produced by lawyers) because they are much more readable and easily accessible. The purpose of these directives, and the way in which they will be used 90% of the time, is to provide guidance for your family, friends, and medical team in helping make decisions about your care.
Advance Care Paperwork Consulting
This is a 2-session package that covers the following:
I generally allow 1.5 hours for the first session, and then we schedule a shorter session 2-3 weeks later to answer any questions and finish completing your directives. (And when you know I'm coming back, you get your forms done!)
$175 for 2-session consultation for one to two people
$250 for 2-session consultation for up to 6 people
Death Over Drinks
We meet the 3rd Thursday of the month for an hour-long, informal drop-in conversation about a variety of end-of-life issues. We meet by Zoom to accommodate the people from all over who joined us during Covid! Please email me if you'd like to join in and I'll add you to the monthly notification list and send you the link. We take a break during July & August.
